The youngest in the 2017 retro’d series, the Nike Air Max Uptempo ’97 celebrates its 20th birthday wearing University Blue nubuck. Originally known as the Air Max Uptempo III, this shoe was made famous by none other than Scottie Pippen. As does its companions in the set, it has a white mid- and outsole. However, who could forget the iconic teardrop shaped plastic pieces that represent, along with the cage inspired upper, the in-your-face attitude of the mid to late Nineties. Dropping the blue air units for a solid white look, this Uptempo model features more Air cushioning than any previous shoe before it. The final changes in the ’97 version include a shift of Uptempo logo to the tongue, cursive “AIR” lettering on the heel, and wavy, circular tread as opposed to the traditional herringbone pattern.
